Cider Pairings for Thanksgiving

Looking to drink something a little different with your meal tomorrow? Certified Sommelier Marcia Sanchez form Preserving Harvest Catering has come up with a list of cider recommendations (all from New York State) to pair with your Thanksgiving meal.

Hardscrabble Cider “Cranberry” | North Salem, NY

  • balance of tart and sweet from apples with a slight cranberry finish
  • notes of honey, spice, and minerals
  • pairs well as an aperitif to cleanse the palate before dinner, or with a vegetarian roasted or charred side dish like Brussels sprouts

Descendant Cider “Pom Pomme” | Queens, NY

  • subtle notes of hibiscus, pomegranates, apples
  • refreshing, light, tart, and vibrant in terms of the fruit and floral notes
  • pairs well with a green salad that has red fall fruits or squash

Nine Pin Cider Works “Fruit of the Forest Cider” | Albany, NY

  • notes sumac berries bring herbaceousness, citrus and umami
  • tart and vibrant acidity from sour cherry notes
  • pairs well with mains such as turkey, roasted ham, or a vegetarian casserole

Kaneb Orchards “Cranberry Crisp Cider” | Massena, NY

  • notes of raspberry, cranberry, honey, and sorbet
  • a balance of tart and sweet that is also clean and refreshing
  • pairs well with desserts, especially those that contain nuts, apples, cream or raspberries
